Dublin Maker Wind-down BBQ & en-Pizza-ing

Dublin Maker logo Can’t you feel the excitement in the air?! Dublin Maker is on this Saturday! From bitter experience we know that all the Makers will be at Panic Stations this entire week. And as we here at TOG are a caring bunch, we’ll be holding our traditional post-Dublin-Maker BBQ (now with added pizza!) on Sunday, 26th July, from 2pm-5pm.

It will be a chance for the Makers to unwind in an understanding and supportive environment. But it’s not just an event for official Dublin Makers! Now is a great opportunity to finally take a look around TOG, or to get to know our members better. It’s a chance for anyone, and everyone, to chill out with some interesting people, who do interesting things, while filling their bellies. So come one, come all, satisfy your curiosity, and your appetites!

Privacy Security Talk in TOG – 22nd April @ 7pm – FREE

Dublin is lucky enough to have great speakers pass through town on occasion and on Wednesday the 22nd April 2015, Runa A. Sandvik (@runasand) and Per Thorsheim (@thorsheim) have kindly offered to speak in TOG from 7pm. The format for the evening is a general meet and greet, but both speakers have offered to give a presentation on a topic of their choice.

Anyone one interested in privacy, security, journalism, Tor and/or has previously attended a CryptoParty would be wise to attend. Doors are from 7pm and bring any projects with you you would like to share with other attendees. This is a free event, open to the public and no need to book. See you Wednesday.

Runa A. Sandvik is an independent privacy and security researcher, working at the intersection of technology, law and policy. She contributes to The Tor Project, writes for Forbes, and is a technical advisor to both the Freedom of the Press Foundation and the TrueCrypt Audit project.

Per Thorsheim as founder/organizer of PasswordsCon.org, his topic of choice is of course passwords, but in a much bigger context than most people imagine. Passwords, pins, biometrics, 2-factor authentication, security/usability and all the way into surveillance and protecting your health, kids and life itself. 😉

Open Street Map Hack Day

TOG is hosting another OpenStreetMap hack day/meet up/barcamp! OSM members will meet up in Dublin and do open street mappy stuff on laptops in TOG. Like an indoor mapping party / hack day / social meet up / barcamp.

What is OpenStreetMap?

OpenStreetMap is a world wide, open content map. It’s Wikipedia meets Google Maps.

If you’d like to learn more about OpenStreetMap, come along! Want to start mapping your local area, and want help? Come along! Want to find out how to use the low level OpenStreetMap data? Come along! This event is open to all, TOG members, non-TOG-members, general public, hardcore OSM mappers, and OSM newbies.

If you’re an OSM mapper and would like come, but not sure what to do, don’t worry we have loads of townlands to map. 🙂

Details

The event is scheduled to run from 12noon until about 6pm on Sunday 25th May 2014. However there is not a fixed schedule so feel free to drop in or out whenever you want.

There is no charge. The event is open to TOG members and the general public. Rory is the point of contact for the event. We’ll probably go for some beers or something that evening. You aren’t required to bring anything, but that will limit what you can do. I’d suggest bringing a laptop or something. TOG has free wifi.

TOG & OpenStreetMap

TOG has hosted a mapping party, held talks about OSM and hosted a previous hack day in March 2014.
