Great weekend in Tog got good bit done working on few projects and making others work.
We where able melt glass, copper, aluminum in our little forge within few minutes.
The Dublin Hackerspace
Ruby is the language and Rails is the framework that stopped people yawning at web development, encouraged coders to try and better themselves as developers and is now the first choice for an overwhelming number of startups, as well as lots of forward looking enterprises. In this 3 hour introduction, Declan McGrath (aka @theirishpenguin) from Intercom will guide you through the same thing all those people had to do – build your first Ruby on Rails application.
We’ll start with a look at Ruby and its syntax before walking our way through the models, views and controllers that comprise a Rails project. By the end of this evening you should know your routes from your database migrations and have a starting point to go on and build other Rails applications.

One of TOG’s projects for the Dublin Mini Maker Faire 2013. This 40 year old, entirely mechanical knitting machine was upgraded with servos, electronics and laser cut parts, and spent the day knitting tweets sent by attendees.
Our projects have been featured on many websites , newspapers and tv over the past few days. This is all in honor of the upcoming Dublin Mini Maker Faire. Â Our Buzzer Gamer featured on Silicon Republic. The giant ARduino Started kit was showcased on Makezine. Our newest created the bubble bird house was expertly demoed by kids on the RTE news.
If you want to see these and out drop down to the Dublin Mini Maker Faire on Saturday 27th July.
We are very proud to be a supporting organization of this year’s Dublin Mini Maker Faire. We will have a stand at faire and our famous Learn to Solder area. In order to finish our projects and give other makers a chance to finish theirs we will be open every day to the public in the lead up to the faire . Opening hours after the fold. Drop by and say hello.
Making and showing off can be such hard work, that’s why Tog are helping out the makers of Dublin Mini Maker Faire by hosting a wind down barbeque on the day after. Last year’s BBQ was a great success, and with more makers at this year’s faire, it can only be better!
The BBQ will be hosted in Tog on Sunday the 28th of July from 2pm. Weather permitting we’ll be sitting in the yard, enjoying the smell of burning coals, otherwise we can huddle indoors and enjoy ourselves. Food will be provided, but you’ll have to bring your own beer (this way you can pick your favourite beer!). Makers who were involved in the Faire will get free-in with their badges. If you’re not a Maker, don’t fret, you can still join us for the reasonable sum of €5.
If you’re not a member, it’d be great if you can RSVP in the comments or by email, so we can plan for you. We don’t want anyone to be left short of food!
Plenty of food for those who come, let us know in comments below.
