HACK/CHANGE

TogExchangeWeb

TOG’s tornado tour continues, this time into Exchange Dublin, a multipurpose culture space in Temple Bar.

The week long exhibition in Exchange brings hacker culture to the people of Dublin, with a variety of crazy contraptions made by the mad members of TOG.

There will be adhoc hack/changes made throughout the week, culminating in a big data visualisation event 8pm on Friday 24th  – wrapping up in time for Tog’s 5th birthday party on Saturday 25th.

So take a stroll through Temple Bar this week and serve yourself a little slice of hacker heaven!

Date: 19th – 25th January

Where: Exchange Dublin

Tickets: No booking required, free entry.

Making a Hot Wire Cutter

3191 Had a go at making a hot wire cutter to cut plastic and polystyrene. Experimented with 2 types of wire. Tried a thinner wire which worked at about 8 amps, but used a thicker wire in the end, as the thinner one broke. It draws about 16 Amps. Managed to cut the tops from some bottles with it. Will experiment a bit more and fine tune it. Want to try some expanded polystyrene. More pics here….

Linux 1. Introduction to the Command Line

tuxLinux is a free open-source operating system invented by Linux Torvalds and developed by a community of developers worldwide. Linux is based on UNIX and has been ported to every platform in use today including PC, Mac, Sparc and ARM and is the base operating system behind Arduino and Android. Book Club January

TOG’s book club is back in full swing. The next meet up is January 17th 7pm.

The book we are reading at the moment is Old Man’s War by John Scalzi.

The book was available in a free ebook from the tor.com (if you signed up to their newsletter). Hopefully you were lucky enough to grab a copy, otherwise there are ebook versions available for as little as €1.99. We checked, there’s also an audio book available.

(There are tools available to help you find the best deal, for example Luzme for UK.)
