DUBLIN SMARTPHONE FILM FESTIVAL -SMARTPHONE FILMMAKING CHALLENGE

Calling all SMARTPHONE FILMMAKERS.
The Dublin Smartphone Film Festival in association with TOG invite you to join us on Saturday the 25th for a Smartphone Filmmaking challenge. This one-day event will take place on the day of the festival.

Filmmakers are invited to the TOG HACKERSPACE venue in 22 Blackpitts to compete.


The challenge will be for filmmakers either as individuals or as a team to create a 1 min short film that they will create on the day of the challenge. All completed shorts will be displayed on the Dublin Smartphone Film Festival Website and social media.


The challenge is open to all filmmakers at any level and is an exciting opportunity to learn how to create a short using just your phone.


There will be a small charge of 5 euro to take part with the proceeds going to Emergency Donations to help wildlife in the Australian bush fires.

48-hr Film Challenge

Want to make a film in 48hrs?

Writers, directors, actors, DOPs, all filmmaking enthusiasts are welcome to join us and get yourself on a team for the 48hr filmmaking challenge taking place on the 9th, 10th & 11th of August

This is a great opportunity if you want to try out filmmaking and don’t know where to start. All skill levels welcome.

We will meet and form teams on Friday 9th of August at 7pm and Teams will get together over the weekend and shoot. The screening will be 7pm on Sunday the 11th of August.

That’s a wrap: fun, flicks and fleadh

Filmmaking is an art and craft with a rich history of can do creative making technology usage prop and set design and musical composition.

Tog hosted  its first film hackathon in November – the Kino Kabaret.

 

We had 35 participants, many of who brought in their friends and family to serve as extras and helpers.

 

There were actors, camera people,script writers, directors, music composers and many more.

 

 

People came from as far afield as Turkey Germany and Slovakia for the weekend session.

 

Pitching started on Friday morning, with 6 films initially put forward to the group.

Soon other ideas emerged organically, and by the time of screening there were 16 films put on screen.

In the meantime there was a Q&A by renowned Irish filmmaker Terry McMahon  following the screening of his award winning sound patrick’s day

 

Sunday was a busy day of editing and finishing film projects.

 

Screening was on Sunday evening, with a short intro by one of the filmmakers involved before each was shown.

Many laughs, cheers, sobs and contemplations were had by the large group watching.

 

Many people would never been part of a film before helped to make several, and experienced people learned new tricks and made new friends.

 

Overall a good time was had by all and its hoped that we’ll host more such events by themselves and intermixed with the other hackathons we run

Museums and Makers Inspiring Each Other Video

A few months back we teamed up with the Chester Beatty Library, to put on a night that gave makers and museums people a chance to learn from each other. Below is the video from the event with interviews with Don Undeen of BoomHiFive, Georgetown University Maker Hub, and Jenny Siung, Head of Education, Chester Beatty Library, and our own Jeffrey Roe giving their thoughts on makers and museums.

 

 

This event was part of the Making Museum project, an 18-month EU-funded training initiative (Erasmus+ 20172019) exploring how museum staff can up-skill in creativity, innovation, creative collaborations with local maker communities, and embed these ideas in their public programmes for audiences.
