TOG May Open Social

Well summer has arrived (sort of), it’s the middle of the month (or thereabouts), it’s Saturday and it’s 7PM. What on earth does all this mean? It means TOG Open Social of course. Drop in and have a natter with us.

Our May Open Social takes place on Saturday 21st May at 7pm. If you fancy a great alternative Saturday evening in town, why not drop in and see us. We’ll show you around our space and update you on the progress. We’ve been very busy lately with events and workshops. We have a number of others in the pipeline. Dublin Maker is coming at us frighteningly fast too.

Our Open Social is a great informal way to visit us. You can talk to members and visitors, see what’s going on, or just hang out for the evening. The space stays open until the last member is left……usually the small hours of Sunday morning. The evening is free to attend for members and visitors alike. Our doors will be open from 7pm. No booking is required…. just turn up. You can drop in for 10 minutes, or stay the whole night. We have parking available. Bring beer, food, gadgets! Hope to see you there.

E-Bike Battery Surgery

battery deadOne of our long term visitors is an e-biker. One of his batteries was on the blink. There was no output on the normal output connectors, but there appeared to be an output via the charge port. We suspected that the balance circuit was shot, but when we opened the battery case, it looked like one of the cells was physically damaged. Lots of pics here.

We ordered a replacement cell. When we removed the bad cell, we noticed some others damaged. It looks like we need 4 replacement cells in all. We plan to cannibalise these from an old spare battery. We tested the remaining cells and they seem able to take a charge and deliver reasonable current. A 2 Ohm power resistor came in handy. Check back with us to see how the rest of the repair went.

TOG April Open Social

Our April Open Social takes place on Sat 16th April at 7pm. If you fancy a great alternative Saturday evening in town, why not drop in and see us. We’ll show you around the space and update you on the progress. Things are moving along nicely. Our workshop walls are going up and we’ve now had our first brewday. We might even have some beer samples for you to try 🙂

(Don’t forget that we’ll also be at the Big Day Out on Sunday 20th March in Merrion Square from 12:00 midday.)
UPDATE
From 5pm there will be a demo of an automatic finding satellite dish. The project is hoping to pick up video from the international space station passes overhead.
Also on the same evening we will be playing with a brand new
evaluation kit to enable data transmission over the Dublin Sigfox
network.

Brewers “Equipment Day” (Saturday March 12th, 2pm)

We are having an informal “brewing equipment day” on March 12th in the new TOG space at 2pm. The goal is to meet up for a few hours to clean up a corner to store the brewing equipment. This is an opportunity for people who had offered to donate brewing equipment to TOG to bring in their gear and give it a home. We will also be giving tours of the space to show anyone around who hasn’t seen the space yet. In short this is what we will be doing:

– Clean up the potential brewing corner
– Give tours of the space to those who haven’t seen it yet
– Make an inventory of all of the brewing equipment
– Label all of the equipment
– Make a plan/list of what else we need if anything
– Pick a date for the first brew-day of the new space

The goal of the brewers within TOG is to establish and maintain a high end brewing system to give brewers of all levels access to equipment that they might not have at home. This would enable all members to brew beer, wine, mead or cider in the space without needing to own any equipment, they merely need to purchase ingredients. As the spring/summer approaches we will start up the monthly brew days again with a bit more structure. We will brew a beer in advance for the open socials along with members brewing their own beer too.

Edit, thanks to everyone that came out this afternoon to help clean the space. Here is the area before it was cleaned:

There is now enough equipment for someone to brew a batch of beer in TOG. 🙂

What a Night!

dog togWell we set out to make our Grand Opening Bash on Saturday our best party ever. It didn’t disappoint. The turnout was amazing.  Thanks to everyone for coming. We hope that you got a tour of the space and a chance to see some of the things and projects we get up to. We even had a 4-legged visitor checking out our new common room and space.

Our new kitchen was a hive of activity. Thanks to everyone who brought in food and helped with the catering. We had so many visitors that we ran out of Pizza dough by 9PM. That never happens. Our very own Dr Tri came to the rescue with her secret quick dough recipe (patent and patents pending 🙂 ). In the end, we think that everyone was fed and watered. Our TOG beer and wine went down a treat. Some snaps are on our gallery.

We’ll be working away on the construction of our new rooms and sorting our stuff over the next few weeks. Be sure to stay in touch with us on our various social media, web and email outlets. If you like us so much that you want to join up as a member, sign up the form here and we’ll be in touch. Hope to see you again soon.
