As Christmas approaches, the festive spirit is alive and well at Tog Hackerspace. Embracing the joy of creation, we extend the warmth of the season to all our friends by sharing handcrafted(by robots) Christmas decorations. This year marks a special milestone for our space – we’re turning 15 next month, and we owe our longevity to the incredible support from our members and the wider community.
We are thrilled to share some exciting news with you all—Tog Hackerspace has been honoured with the prestigious Community Recognition Award by the Dublin City Public Participation Network (PPN). This remarkable achievement coincides with our upcoming fifteenth birthday celebration next month, marking a significant milestone in our collective journey.

Connecting with Dublin’s Community: The Dublin City PPN
The Dublin City PPN acts as a crucial bridge, connecting Dublin City Council with community, voluntary, social inclusion, and environmental groups. Comprising 800-1,000 groups actively working to enhance the well-being of the city, the PPN plays a pivotal role in recognizing and celebrating organizations like ours that contribute to the community’s betterment.

“This episode looks into the potential of repair cafés – community gathering places where people can bring their broken items, such as appliances, clothing, bicycles, or electronics, to be repaired by skilled volunteers for free, thereby promoting sustainability and reducing waste by encouraging people to repair and reuse their belongings instead of throwing them away.”
It was great to have so many of our members featured and showcase what Repair Cafes are and the benefits they bring to the wider community.

We are excited to see our own Moran Been-noon – ‘Here Nor There’ exhibition open at South Tipperary Arts Centre. This exhibition invites us to consider the connection between ethnicity and one’s ability to belong. The exhibition runs from 28th October – 2nd December. Are you fascinated by space and want to learn how to receive data from satellites and weather probes? Join us in this TinyGS Station Workshop where you’ll build and program your ground station and antenna to receive data from space. This hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop is perfect for anyone interested in radio, electronics, IOT, antenna design, and space exploration.
About TinyGS: TinyGS is an open community-run network of Ground Stations distributed around the world to receive and operate LoRa satellites, weather probes and other flying objects, using cheap and versatile modules. With a TinyGS ground station, you can receive data from a variety of sources, such as CubeSats.
What You’ll Learn: During the workshop, you’ll learn how to build and program a TinyGS ground station and a quarter-wave ground plane antenna. No prior experience is required, and we’ll provide all the necessary materials, tools, and equipment to guide you through the process.
Materials Provided: All necessary materials, tools, and equipment will be provided for the workshop, including a quarter-wave ground plane antenna kit, a TinyGS base station kit, and a USB cable. You don’t need to bring anything except a WiFi device(computer or phone) configure and create a Telegram account. At the end of the workshop, you’ll take home your very own TinyGS ground station and antenna. You’ll be able to use your ground station to receive data from satellites and other flying objects and explore the fascinating world of space and radio. If you have any questions or want to continue learning after the workshop, we’re here to help.
