Wireless Hacking Workshop – Saturday 27th June 2015 @ 12:30pm

On Saturday 27th June at 12:30pm our very own jester`, Martin Mitchell or @jayester depending on the circles you run in, will be teaching a Wireless Hacking Workshop.

Wireless networks are everywhere. They have been available to many of us for well over 10 years, and it is something most of us rely on daily. Majority of us have a wireless network in our house, and connect to it regularly with our laptop, phone, games console, media player and now even televisions.

In this practical, hands on workshop I will be stepping you through the different wireless network security modes of 802.11 (WiFi), and demonstrating practical attacks against them. This workshop is not intended to teach you to perform malicious tasks on wireless networks, but it is to show you how easy it is, and how dangerous someone can be knowing even the most basic a few commands. This knowledge can also be used to audit wireless networks. This workshop will to make you more aware of the dangers of using a wireless networks with bad or no security enabled. Evening Talk: Secure Yourself Online – Thursday 21st May 2015 @ 7pm

insecure_passwordOn Thursday 21st at 7pm our very own jester`, Martin Mitchell or @jayester depending on the circles you run in, will be speaking about some best practices of securing yourself on-line :

Whether you are a creator or user of on-line content, knowing how to secure yourself on-line is important. In a world that is becoming more and more digital, we are ever growing our digital footprint. During the talk we will go through a top 10 best security practices, and maybe a few more too boot. It will relevant to you whether your on a laptop, or smart device, getting on-line for work or personal. You only need to be compromised once for an nefarious individual to make for life awkward. Their intention may be for fun or profit, but I will give you the information to protect yourself on-line.

I shall cover a lot but it will touch on passwords, email, encryption, tracking and wireless just to name a few. Aimed at everyone from general viewers of cat videos, those of you that have compromised, to those that would like to become a little bit more paranoid on-line.

Culture night @ TOG

The space will be open from 5pm till late on Friday 19th of September. We’ll be showcasing various projects that our members have been involved in, and will run some very short workshops to give you a taste of the sort of thing we get up to.

Black and white film photography/printing workshop

prettyTog will be hosting a 2 day workshop in B&W film photography, development and printing, running the 5th and 6th of July. This workshop is aimed at film beginners, although intermediate techniques can also be covered. The workshop will be led by Sinead McDonald, a professional visual artist and photographer, and Gary Cooke, engineer and long-time film photographer.

5th July 10am – 6pm; The workshop will begin with a short introduction to manual photography / B&W photography. We’ll then head around the corner for a short group photowalk (St Patricks Park and Iveagh Buildings), returning to develop the negatives.

6th July 10am – 6pm; We’ll select negatives to print, run through a short outline of technique and best practice in darkroom printing, and we’ll print as many images as time allows. There should be plenty of time for at least one image for each participant.

Film, paper, chemicals etc will be supplied. There will be a limited number of 35mm film cameras available on the day for those who don’t have access to one. You are encouraged however to bring your own.

Cost: Members €20 (to cover materials), public €40 (all proceeds after material costs will go to supporting Tog activities)
Attendees: up to ten

Engineers Week: An evening of inspiring ideas

Linux 1. Introduction to the Command Line

tuxLinux is a free open-source operating system invented by Linux Torvalds and developed by a community of developers worldwide. Linux is based on UNIX and has been ported to every platform in use today including PC, Mac, Sparc and ARM and is the base operating system behind Arduino and Android. It is released under the GNU public license and can be copied and reused freely.

TOG will be offering a six week introductory course to the Linux Command Line on Monday nights starting in January. This course assumes no previous programming experience.

This course will teach you how to administer your Linux system from the command line. It will not cover installing Linux nor will it cover Gnome or KDE functionality. Instead, we will be using VirtualBox and each student will download a virtual hard drive with the latest Debian preinstalled and configured for the course.

When: Mondays Jan 6th – Feb 10th 2014.
Time: 7:00 – 10:00pm (with 30 min break)
Sessions: 6.
Where: Tog Classroom.
Price: 100 euros.
