Celebrate TOG’s sixth birthday (and last one at Chancery Lane)

party_bgTOG is six years old! We’ll be having cake to celebrate this Saturday 24th of January. It’ll also be our last birthday in Chancery Lane as the lease is up and we need to move. So, the details:

The Birthday Party
There’ll be cake! There’ll be friendly neighbourhood hackers! There’ll be good times! Did we mention cake? TOG will be open from 7.30pm till late on Saturday 24th of January. Just drop down and enjoy yourself. You don’t have to be a member and there’s no cost to attend, though we’d welcome donations for the move (see next section). If you want to bring any nibbles to share, that’d be great but not obligatory. Likewise, if you want beer, bring your own (you don’t have to share that). If you’ve not visited us yet, this is the perfect time to scope us out!

We Have to Move
TOG need to leave Chancery Lane by the end of April. We are currently looking for a new place to lease, so if you know of anything that we can’t find ourselves (we’re keeping a close eye on daft), suggest it to one of our members or send a note on the contact page. We want to stay in the city centre so it’s easy for everyone to get to the space, and we’d like to be able to have a few sub rooms so we can keep workshop gear separate from the sewing machines and nights of talks (similar to our current set up).
Once we find a place, we’re going to have some extra costs (deposits need to be paid upfront, vans and skips need to be rented), so if you’d have a few bob to spare, consider donating some €€’s to help us out through the paypal link below or by dropping in to the space. If you want to help us in the longer term, consider becoming a member and sharing the month to month running costs. We’ll have a laser-cut collection box at the birthday party, so if you want to donate lovely anonymous cash, we’re prepared for that too.
We’ll keep everyone posted on how things are going with finding a place and moving. Group nights will continue as normal in Chancery Lane until we’ve settled elsewhere.

December in TOG involves lots of sugar

The true meaning of sugar craftnight: sugar and craft (we don't need to knit jumpers for snails...)
The true meaning of sugar craftnight: sugar and craft (we don’t need to knit jumpers for snails…)
As has become tradition, the last craftnight of the year is sugar craftnight. So on Tuesday, December 9th from about 6.30pm TOG will become a sugar disaster waiting to happen. Everyone is welcome to join us! There won’t be as much crafting happening on the evening as usual craftnights, but we’ll be delighted with anyone who wants to craft! I’ll bring a bag of Christmassy craft supplies so you can glue shiny things to other less shiny things.

For a discussion on who’s bringing what treats, check out the craft mailing list . If you subscribe to it you’ll get reminders of future craftnights too, after all, craftnight is for life not just for Christmas. Craftnight will return in the New Year on Tuesday, January 6th.

There might be some Christmassy workshops planned too, but everything’s all hush hush at the moment (it’s still only November!), we’ll let you know as soon as we can though!

The metal lathe’s shiny new cover

The lathe in its new cover near its friend the tiny geodesic dome.

A few of TOG’s members got together and put a metal lathe in the workshop. The workshop is the most appropriate place for it, but also the place it’s most likely to gather dust (from other people’s projects, the lathe will get plenty of use). So the first project for the lathe was to build it a cover.

Wind-Down BBQ for Dublin Maker

After a hectic day of making and showing off at Dublin Maker, we like to relax with a burger in one hand and an umbrella in the other. So on Sunday 27th of July, we’re hosting a BBQ for makers to eat, chat and start planning next year’s projects.
It’ll kick off in TOG from 2pm, rain or shine. Print
If you’re a maker, bring your Dublin Maker badge with you and we’ll fill you with grub.
If you’re not a maker, but you want to rub shoulders with us, you’re welcome to join us (and make a small donation to the cost of the food). Just let us know by email or in the comments that you’re popping along.
