Science Hackday Dublin 2016

Science HacScience Hack Day Dublink Day Dublin is a 36 hour hardware and software hackathon. A social event with creativity and love of science at its heart.  Each year it brings together coders, designers, scientists, engineers and makers simply to make interesting things. Why? For adventure, for playfulness, for science!  The event takes place on the 19th & 20th November.

This year we are super proud to be hosting the event in our own space. We have been helping out since the very first Science Hack Day many years ago. We are excited to offer a big range of tools and experience to all the participants. Now entering its 5th year, its the best community hackathon around.

Birthday Celebration For Tog Hackerspace DAC

This time of year is important for us. It marks one year since we made the big move from Chancery Lane to Blackpitts, and the formation of our new TOG Hackerspace DAC. So we’re having a bit of a celebration…… outside the space for a change.

Join us upstairs in the Long Stone pub on Friday 11th November in Townsend St from 7PM, for a bit of a get-together and craic. All welcome. There are very strong rumors of cake!

Science Week: Soldering Workshop

02477_Science_Week_FinalThis hands on workshop will cover various aspects of soldering; from the basic techniques of soldering, to soldering electronic components to make simple circuits. Participants will learn how to solder and finish off the workshop with a kit they can bring home. Check out some photos from previous workshops in our gallery.

Cost:  €20.00 plus fees. Tickets below.

When: Sunday 13rd of November.  11:00 to 13:30

No electronics skills required. This workshop is suitable for 12 years and up. All participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

SuperCollider Workshop

supercolliderSuperCollider is a platform for audio synthesis and algorithmic composition, used by musicians, artists, and researchers working with sound. It is free and open source software available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. With it’s GUI that can interface with external controllers. In a client / server architecture, it features a library providing for acoustic research, algorithmic music, interactive programming and live coding. The objective of this workshop is to learn the basics of the language and apprehend time in its projects to develop complex scenarios by orchestrating and communication of its internal and external processes to SuperCollider.

Workshop Leader Bio: Sébastien Clara is multidisciplinary, he is computer scientist, musician and musicologist. He has compted a musicology course (my humanities) concluded with a Master of Science in Computer Music and Master of Music Research. At the present time, He is a PhD student and teaches computer music at Jean Monnet University of St-Étienne. He is also a keen trumpet player.

Space Upgrade September 2016

We are always doing upgrades and improvements in our space.  Below are some of our latest.

We have added in extraction systems in each of our toilets. We have disabled the urinal and changed the toilets to be gender neutral.

More desks. We have added a new desk near our lathe and another one in the electronics room.

General clear out. We also filled a skip with building waste and general stuff left over from the move.

Coder Girl Hack Day

Coder Girl Hack Day is a one day tech event focusing on creative wearables, maker magic and web development. It a celebrate of International Day of the Girl and EU Code Week. It brings together the community for an inclusive family event featuring learning sessions for girls & parents. This year, the event will be held on October 15th in Dog Patch Labs, CHQ. The event takes the form of a number of tracks to give participators different flavors of creative endeavors.

Tog is teaming up with Intel Ireland to add the maker element to the day. Last year, we had the girls create light houses, this year continuing on the light theme we will be making shadow boxes. These boxes can be used to make cool lighting displays or shadow puppets shows.
This is made possible by an eclectic mix of community groups and industry supporters. Here in Tog , we are proud to be one of them. Tickets Below.
