Saturday April 2nd

We’ve got some activities tomorrow Saturday April 2nd in TOG that you might like to attend.

The first is the Ubuntu Global Jam from 10am to 6pm.

Ubuntu Global Jam is a great event for many reasons. It is both social
and fun with many face to face meetups around the globe where people
work and play on an extraordinarily wide variety of ubuntu related
topics. People will work on bugs (both reporting and fixing), testing
the latest Natty release, documentation, advocacy material and many
other things lots of which probably haven’t even been considered as of
yet.

The second is our regular Saturday Open Social Night from 7pm to late. Come and hangout with Dublin’s hackers and makers for a chat or to show off your latest project. Our tuck shop has been restocked, we’re now stocking Club-Mate original the ultimate hacker drink.

Craft Night: A candle for Easter

Tomorrow is another craft night, and I have brought some egg-shaped candles that need decorating and new homes 🙂
They will be €1.50 each, and depending on you creativity it will take you 5 minutes to half an hour to finish your creation.

As always: You can bring your own craft project and work on that and just share some tea and conversation 🙂

Hope so see you there!
Meg

2011-04-17 Easter is coming!

Easter is coming up, and so is a really nice Easter workshop in TOG.

As some of you know, I moved to Austria two months ago. Since I’m coming for a visit next week, I decided to bring lots of nice things with me, to show you how we decorate for Easter back in Austria :).

The workshop will start by creating an Easter decoration from scratch, beginning with a raw piece of wood that needs to be grained and branches fresh from the tree that we will turn into a basket.

Once the hard woodwork is done, we’ll create chickens and butterflies out of wool and ribbons for the most colourful spring impression possible. There will also be plenty of flowers, pussy willows and lady bugs to complete our work of art.

To not leave our Easter basket empty, we will color and decorating eggs (that can still be eaten afterwards), as well as fill it with various chocolate goodies – a vital part of this holiday.

Fee: 15€ for non-members / 9€ for members (eggs and chocolate included)

Shamrock soldering workshop

In this Paddy’s Day themed workshop participants will be shown the steps involved in etching a PCB, basic surface mount soldering and will have a choice of Shamrock kits to assemble.

40 LED Shamrock – €12 Members, €14 Student/Unwaged, €16 General Public
68 LED Shamrock – €24 Members, €28 Student/Unwaged, €32 General Public
LED Shamrock Badge – €14 Members, €17 Student/Unwaged, €20 General Public

Most of these kits involved only basic surface mount soldering techniques, which even beginners should be able to handle. Additional kits from previous workshops will also be available.

Dexy Documentation Hack Day

Tog will be hosting a Dexy Documentation Hack Day, led by the Dexy creator Ana Nelson. If you are interested in learning Dexy, while also contributing to an open source project, and having a fun day out with fellow geeks, then here is your chance!

The workshop will be held on Saturday, 26 March 2011 in Tog, from 10am till 5pm. This will be a hands-on hack day where we will be writing real documentation, so it’s a great chance to learn-by-doing. It’s absolutely free and will be lots of fun!

You don’t have to be an expert programmer, but you should be comfortable with the command line and have some programming experience. The signup form is over there: http://www.eventbrite.com/s/3wxR and also contains a bit more information. If you have any questions feel free to leave them in the comments or get in touch with Ana.

Paddy’s Day Hackathon

Looking for an alternative way to spend St. Patrick’s day.? Let your creative side out and come along to our special Paddy’s Day hackathon. Why not add a little bit of green to your projects, a shamrock, a green LED or even a pint of the black stuff.

The hackathon will take place in our space on Thursday 17th of March, with our space open from about 11:00 to late in the evening. In the evening we’ll be having our regular Open Social Night.

Don’t have a project, why not signup for our Shamrock Soldering Workshop.
