Easter is coming!

Easter is coming up, and so is a really nice Easter workshop in TOG.

Date: Sunday, 4th of March
Time: 2pm – 6pm
Participants: max. 9

The workshop will start by creating an Easter decoration from scratch, beginning with a raw piece of wood that needs to be grained and branches fresh from the tree that we will turn into a basket.

Once the hard woodwork is done, we’ll create chickens and butterflies out of wool and ribbons for the most colourful spring impression possible. There will also be plenty of flowers, pussy willows and lady bugs to complete our work of art.

To not leave our Easter basket empty, we will color and decorate eggs (that can still be eaten afterwards), as well as fill it with various chocolate goodies – a vital part of this holiday.

Fee: 15€ for non-members / 9€ for members (eggs and chocolate included)
Please let us know if you’re interested in attending!

eVoting Discussion

The Irish Government is planning on disposing of it’s eVoting machines and is seeking tenders. Various members of TOG are interested in this, and seeing if we can get some eVoting machines, so we’re going to have a meeting/discussion/brainstorming session in the space at 9pm Saturday 4th February.

If you’re interested in this topic, please come along!

28C3: No Nerd Left Behind

CCC “is a annual four-day conference on technology, society and utopia” held in Berlin. This its 28th year, tickets were like gold-dust. So if you’re one of the many who couldn’t get any, consider catching a few of the live streams with us at tog. (You can find our official listing here.)

Running over four days, from December 27th to 30th, starting about 11:30am each day, running until midnight the first three days and finishing up about 7pm on the 30th. Constant talks, presentations, and massive info dumps. Check out the schedule here.

We are unsure whether there will always be someone in tog over the course of the conference (as many of our members are at 28C3, or at BerlinSides), but we are going to try our best to be open and watching! As always, check irc or twitter regularly to find out if the space is open.

We’ll be showing the (English) talks on the projector. Choice of talk will be majority-rule, or coin-toss. (And you can always pull out the second projector, or tune in on your laptop if you really can’t miss something.) We offer company, fairly comfortable seats, cooking facilities, and the usual tog-ness. You could do a lot worse than joining us 🙂 But wherever you’re tuning in from we hope you enjoy the event!

Craft Night with added Sugar

Hello again Crafters! It’s been a long year, many projects were started, a few even finished, and it’s always good to see your toil pay off. So we at tog reckon it’s time for a Craft Night reward. The next Craft Night (Tuesday, 13th) will be a special cookies and sugarcraft night! We’ll be baking cookies, icing them, and someone even mentioned hot chocolate 🙂

If that’s not your thing don’t worry, it will be a regular Craft Night too, just with added sugar-fueled giddiness from the kitchen! The sugary rewards are available to anyone on the night doing any craft. And it’s also the last Craft Night of the year (to begin again in January), so why not? Come along, have some fun 😀

A Taste of R workshop: 2nd edition

After the success of the first one, Tog will be hosting our second “Taste of R” workshop on December 12th, taught by Kevin O’Brien (Dublin-R). R is a programming language used for statistics.

This is a repeat of the November 24th workshop, targeted at complete beginners. Students should be reasonably familiar with computers and have knowledge of loops. The statistical content will be kept as straightforward as possible.

When? Monday, December 12th, from 7.30pm till around 9.30pm
Cost: €5 for non-members, free for members

Please use the form below the cut to sign up. Updated to add: we’re full! You may still sign up to be added to the waiting list.
