As 2024 draws to a close, we at Tog Hackerspace have been busy spreading Christmas cheer in true maker style! This year, we turned our laser cutter into Santa’s workshop, crafting beautiful Christmas decorations for our friends and supporters. These ornaments are our way of saying thank you for being part of our community and celebrating another fantastic year of creativity and collaboration.
In the spirit of making, we’d like to extend a little festive humour. Some of these decorations may have arrived with, shall we say, “bonus assembly required.” If you’ve received one of these, consider it an exclusive DIY project or a seasonal jigsaw puzzle to enjoy during the festive period!
We’ve also included a special open letter reflecting on 2024, from the amazing workshops we’ve hosted to the exciting projects our members have created.
Dear Tog Hackerspace Friends,
As we settle into the festive season, we’re sending warm Christmas wishes to you from everyone here at Tog Hackerspace. Enclosed, you’ll find a little decoration for your tree, carefully crafted on our laser cutter—a small token of appreciation from our community to yours.
2024 has been a brilliant year for us, full of creativity, hard work, and collaboration. Here are just a few highlights from the past year:
- We participated in Science & Engineers Week, running workshops on IoT, air quality sensors, soldering and Arduino Cloud projects, sparking curiosity and innovation in the local community.
- Our Retro Computing events celebrated technology from the past, bringing a sense of nostalgia and discovery to participants.
- We hosted DIY EV meetups, connecting enthusiasts passionate about electric vehicles and sustainable transport.
- Our Repair Cafés, run in partnership with Dublin Maker, continued to thrive, sharing stories, repairs, and sustainable practices across six events.
- Regular activities such as electronics evenings, Open House Tuesdays, and open socials provided opportunities for makers of all ages and skill levels to come together.
- We participated in events like Maker Expo Zagreb, EMFcamp, BSides Dublin, the Carnival of Science, Comic Con, and supported Women+ in STEM at GamerFest, spreading the joy of making far and wide.
- During Togtober, our community came together to enhance our space, making it an even better hub for creativity and learning.
Looking ahead to 2025, we’re excited about what’s to come:
- Our Science Fiction Book Club is moving to in-person meetings, starting in January with Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky.
- A Repair Café on Sunday, 19th January, kicking off another year of fixing and sharing.
- More workshops and projects, with a focus on IoT, space tech, and citizen science, alongside our usual mix of crafting, electronics, and woodworking.
- And, of course, our biggest celebration yet—Tog’s 16th Birthday on 25th January 2025! It’ll be a chance to reflect on 16 years of creativity, learning, and friendship, and we’d love for you to join us.
From all of us at Tog, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you for being part of our journey and for making this community what it is. Here’s to a fantastic 2025!
All the best,
Jeffrey Roe
